An ice star or water star is a star composed of water, ammonia and helium similar to ice giant planets, rather than hydrogen and helium. The water is steam and plasma. Because the water contains hydrogen, these stars will still fuse hydrogen into helium, but there will be less hydrogen and as such they will burn less hot and take longer to die. Ice stars are most likely to be extremely rare in our universe, and we have not found any yet.

Ice stars are smaller than normal stars because of being denser. Ice stars have less hydrogen so they will live for much longer than a normal star of the same mass. The mass needed for a planet to become an ice star is more than the mass needed for it to become a normal star.
