A Type 1.5 Civilization can usually harness the energy of about half of it's star system, and has set up extensive Type-1 colonies on several planets and moons. By this point, most civilizations (that is, if Earth isn't isolated) at this type would have contacted other civilizations in their system by now, due to settling many objects that could have life, and the first outposts in Alpha Centauri and Oort Cloud. Optimistically, our local civlization could reach Type 1.5 in a few hundred years, or if massive funding is put towards space travel, a century.

 Transportation

Type 1.5 civilizations would likely create a network of counterweights and tethers around their central planet that will accelerate probes to blinding speeds to enable fast travel.

Evolution

Type 1.5 Civilizations will need more energy as they expand out of their system. Late 1.5s will start construction of a Dyson sphere via self-replicating spacecraft and transition towards Type 2.
